BIO
SoCal Soul & Family is a group of seasoned musicians who greatly enjoy sharing their love of music with others! Performing the sounds that move the soul; the band covers songs from artists such as: Wilson Pickett, Darius Rucker, Adele, Patsy Cline, Etta James, Big Joe Turner, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Amy Winehouse, The Drifters, Aretha Franklin, The Rascals, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Hall & Oats, Joss Stone and many more! SoCal Soul also performs some of their original material, several of which were written by the late Robert L. Harris Sr. They are a perfect fit for any private or corporate event, your local bar & grill/restaurant, bar, club or music festival, and are sure to take you down memory lane and away from your worries (if for just a little while) with tunes that will remind you of what music can do for the soul!

MARLA KAY
Lead Singer
Marla Kay is an experienced Lead Vocalist/Recording Artist. who has been following her passion for singing since she was very young. Hailing from the great state of Texas; Marla started singing lead vocals at the age of 15 as the front person for the widely known West Texas Rock Band "Risq".  Her love of music runs deep and her desire to encourage young artists has led her to become a full time Vocal Coach, by way of her business "BumbleBee Vocals", for young actors/singers in Hollywood. Many of her students have gone on to book roles on major networks such as Fox, ABC and CBS as a result her voice lessons and coaching sessions. Marla Kay believes that the voice is an instrument and she very much enjoys sharing hers with the world! She became the lead singer for SoCal Soul in early 2019, and she adores her new family! She is certain that the common love of music that runs through the veins of her band mates is the bind that ties them and makes them a vital part of her "Cali Fam"!

ANNÂ DELVILLAR
Background Vocals
Ann has been singing since high school where she sang in her high school's chorus and in her church choir. Ann got involved in the band when her husband, Martin, returned to playing and formed the band "Group Therapy", now known as "SoCal Soul". Ann sings background for the group as well as lead on several songs.

MARTIN DELVILLAR
Founder, Rhythm Guitar, Vocals,
Martin has played with a variety of bands since high school, where he played Surf, R&B and Country, during the Sixties. His musical career was interrupted when he volunteered to join the military during the Vietnam War. In 2008, after raising his family, he picked up his guitar again and has been honoring his skills and love of music ever since. Martin formed various bands before finally founding "SoCal Soul & Family", which he has stated as being "The band I wish I had since getting back into music. This is the band!!"

MICHAEL POWELL
Bass Guitar, Vocals
Michael is the musical heartbeat of the SoCal Soul and the bass guitar is his instrument of choice! He also arranges, produces, and records his own music, which he shares to help the sound of the band. Immersed in the soulful sounds of the 70's and 80's, he brings the music he loves to those funky, bluesy, R&B, mellow rock bass lines that create the essence of his sound.

RICK KOLAN
Lead Guitar, Vocals
Rick is an experienced and versatile guitarist excited to bring his wide palette of sonic colors to SoCal Soul, seasoning our sound with a tasty blend of funk, blues, country rock, roots, soul, progressive rock, jazz and fusion. He has spent years honing his craft and satisfying his love of good music in bands both in the US and Australia.

MIKE HALPERN
Drummer, Balloon Artist, Thought Provoking Humorist
Mike started playing drums at the age of seven, after hearing a trumpet player across the street. According to Mike, when he told his mom, "When I grow up I want to play drums", she replied "You can't do both". Mikey, as we call him, has played with orchestras, big bands, and a multitude of rock bands. Mikey says drummers are like doctors... they can read charts, they just don't bother. His mom says that SoCal Soul is the best band he's ever played with. Mikey loves the band. You will too!!
